Bay Meadows Elementary is located in southwest Orange County at 9150 S.
Apopka-Vineland Road. The school was built in 1990 and renovated during
the 2005-06 school year. It is an attractive structure of modular design
with seven permanent buildings. We have a one of a kind children’s
interactive garden, two state of the art computer labs and a PTA supported
publishing center. Special programs include physical education, music,
art, media and guidance. ESOL (English for speakers of other languages)
is taught within the each classroom by the classroom teacher. In addition,
enrichment, specific learning disabilities, speech/ language classes,
varying exceptionalities and strings are available to students who qualify.
The school offers an Extended Day Enrichment Program for early drop off
and after school care.
Bay Meadows Elementary offers a strong curriculum designed to implement
its vision and goals to serve the students and parents of the community.
Prior to the grading of schools, we received the Florida School Recognition
Award from the Florida Department of Education for outstanding achievement
in the areas of Reading, Writing and Math. Since that time, the Florida
Department of Education has rated our school an “A”, the highest
achievement level possible for since1998 through last year, that's eight
years in a row.
We have won three Little Red School House Awards in recognition of the
outstanding programs at our school. In 1994, we won the Little Red School
House Award for our excellent multicultural program. In 1998, we won for
our Koala-ty Children’s Garden and in 2001; we received the award
for our International Storybook Night.
The school currently has over 50 supportive partners-in-education along
with agencies and ADDitions volunteers who donate time and resources.
We’ve been designated as a family friendly Red Carpet School and
a School of Light.
Every year since 1994, Bay Meadows has earned the Five Star School Award
from the Florida Department of Education for exemplary community involvement
and excellence in the areas of Business Partnerships, Family Involvement,
Volunteers, Students’ Community Service and School Advisory Council.
In the fall of 1996, we won the Walt Disney Community Service Award for
“Celebrate Diversity-It’s a World Bazaar” in the Arts
and Culture Category. We were the only elementary school in Orange County
to win this prestigious award.
In 1998, we were also awarded third place in the University of Florida
and EPCOT Center Garden Competition. Our school was rated the Best Public
School in Central Florida by the Central Florida Business Journal in the
June 2001 edition.
Parents volunteer their time to work in publishing, the media center and
in the classrooms presenting Math Magic, Super Scientist, and Arty-Facts,
earning us the yearly Golden School Award. Our active PTA, which boasts
100% parent and staff membership, sponsors numerous fun-filled family
events. In 2002 and 2006, our PTA was named the Most Outstanding PTA in
Orange County. The PTA earned the “Local Unit with the Greatest
Number of Members Award” in 2003. In 2004, our PTA once again earned
the “Local Unit with the Greatest Number of Members Award”
in addition to “Outstanding PTA,” “Outstanding Newsletter,”
and the “Outstanding PTA Volunteer.”
In 2003, Bay Meadows Elementary earned the distinguished National PTA
Parent Involvement School of Excellence Award. Through the dedication
of the school’s PTA, Bay Meadows Elementary School is the ONLY school
in Orange County to receive this prestigious award. The school is certified
with this national recognition through the year 2006.
